ORWELL, Vt. –The Mount Independence State Historic Site in Orwell, Vermont, has received a $28,500 Museums for America grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services for a project to create and install interpretive signage on the 1-¼ mile-long trail handicapped accessible trail under construction this fall. TOP HATS, A MAGICIAN,
AND CALVIN COOLIDGE August 22, 2003 |

The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site has added
four elegant top hats to its rare collection of clothing
that belonged to the 30th U.S. President. Peter Land of
Lebanon, New Hampshire donated the hats during a recent
visit to Calvin Coolidges boyhood home in Plymouth

In a room recently reopened to the
public, the Chimney Point State Historic Site in Addison presents
The Light of Dawn, a continuing exhibition of
contemporary art by Abenaki artists. Many of the pieces were
part of the first all-Abenaki exhibition that debuted here
in 1994 and toured to other museums as a statement of Abenaki
culture to the world. Artist Gerard Rancourt Tsonakwa generously
donated the collection.

The President Calvin Coolidge
State Historic Site has recently received two important artifacts
associated with First Lady Grace Coolidge. The objects, a
knitted bedspread and an autographed photograph, were given
by Mrs. Elizabeth Montague Lindley of Gloucester, Virginia.

The Water Witch,
a nationally significant shipwreck and one of the most impressive
underwater sites in Lake Champlain, was formally opened to
diver access on July 26, 2002.
