The Vermont Division for Historic Preservation, part of
the State of Vermont's Agency of Commerce and Community
Development, identifies, protects and promotes Vermont's
public and private historic and archeological resources;
including the maintenance, operation, and interpretation
of state-owned historic sites.
The Division maintains inventories and provides information
on historic buildings, districts, and archeological sites.
It also administers the Rehabilitation Investment Tax Credit
(RITC) program, aimed at income-producing historic buildings
on the National Register of Historic Places. The Division
operates grant programs to repair historic buildings that
are eligible for listing on the National Register.
The Division also conducts a town-by-town survey of historic
structures and lists towns on the State Register of Historic
Places and nominates properties to the National Register
of Historic Places.
