Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the 2011 Barn Grant Program. The Division for Historic Preservation, in cooperation with the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, is pleased to announce that the Vermont Legislature appropriated $180,000.00 for the 2011 Barn Grant Program, which offers competitive 50/50 matching grants for up to $10,000 for repair of historic agricultural buildings.
The broad purpose of the State of Vermont’s grant program for agricultural buildings is to preserve these important historic structures as they represent Vermont’s agricultural heritage to current and future generations. The buildings must be listed on or be eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Eligibility for listing will be determined by the Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation as part of the application process. This is a reimbursement grant program, which means a grant recipient is responsible for paying for the full amount of the project and the state will reimburse the grant recipient once all the required paper work is complete.
Please read the entire 2011 Grant Manual before completing the application. Also, be sure to pay special attention to the photograph requirements, allow time in your schedule for photo processing and be aware that you will need a good cost estimate for the project budget.
***NEW THIS YEAR***
The grant application is to be submitted via email to accd.barngrants@state.vt.us.
If you are unable to submit the application document via email, you may submit a paper copy directly to the Division office. The application and corresponding manual are available at www.historicvermont.org/financial/barn2.html. (If you need to submit a paper copy of the application but are unable to download it from the internet, you may request a paper copy of the application and manual from the Division by calling 802-828-3213 or sending an email to debra.sayers@state.vt.us and leaving your name, mailing address and zip code and telephone number.)
All materials must be submitted to the Division for Historic Preservation by November 1, 2010.
Please see the 2011 Barn Grant Manual for directions on how to fill out the application, a list of additional required materials and details on how to submit the application materials.
The Vermont Advisory Council on Historic Preservation will review all of the applications and select the grant recipients in February 2011. All applicants will receive written notification of the results by March 2011. If you have any questions that are not covered in the Grant Manual, please call 802-828-3049 for assistance. We look forward to receiving your application.
Sincerely,
VERMONT DIVISION FOR HISTORIC PRESERVATION
