This was actually Colonel John’s bedroom in 1923. The President and his wife, Grace, slept in the middle bedroom upstairs. Because it was not possible to arrange public access to the second floor, the furnishings used by Calvin and Grace have been moved down to this bedroom. The bedroom set is typical of late - 19th century country cottage furniture. It is "grained," a painting technique used to imitate more expensive woods.
To the left of the dresser are photographs of Mr. and Mrs. Barton G. Billings. (Mr. Billings was Colonel John’s cousin.) On the floor are two pair of the President’s shoes. The President’s sister made the hand-pieced quilt on the bed.
On the commode is a chamber set. The photographs above are of Colonel John (left) and Calvin Galusha Coolidge (right).
