CHIMNEY POINT STATE HISTORIC SITE

For more than 7,500 years, the jutting shoreline known as Chimney Point has been a strategic settlement for peoples occupying the Champlain Valley.

Chimney Point on Lake Champlain in Vermont is one of the earliest, mostly intensely settled, and most strategic sites in the Champlain Valley, with human habitation going back as far as 7,500 years.

Exhibits and special events present the story of the three early cultures in the Chimney Point area — Native American, French colonial, and early American. These little known facets of Vermont history are presented through archaeological artifacts left behind, contemporary arts and traditions kept alive by their descendants, and the historic building and spectacular setting on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain.

June 14-October 11: Sunday Afternoon Specials
Hands-on activities and period games. Learn about ancient stone tools or how to throw an atlatl, play period games, and enjoy other fun for all ages. Sunday afternoons throughout the season, 2:00-4:00 PM.

From Northern and Eastern Vermont — take Route 7 south to Route 22A, then proceed on to Route 17 west and take the left turn immediately before the Lake Champlain Bridge.

From Southern Vermont — take Route 30 or Route 22A north to Route 125 west, then take the left turn immediately before the Lake Champlain Bridge.

From New York State — cross the Lake Champlain Bridge, 4 miles east of Route 9N and 22, and take the first right turn immediately after crossing the bridge.
